Lillie Finklea and Louise Massoud, 2008 Living Legends of Alexandria, reported an exciting development for the Friends of Freedmen's Cemetery. The story was included in the June 2011 issue of PRESERVATION, The Magazine of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The article is "The Road to Freedom: The Forgotten Story of America's Contraband". It even includes a video with Audrey Davis and Lillian Patterson of Alexandria's Black History Museum. The Freedmen's MemorialCemetery is scheduled to open this year.
